PJM — Mid-October emergency alerts are behind us, but capacity policy is still moving
- 5CP Capacity Tags: The summer coincident peak window has closed, so no 5CP exposure today. Most recent stress event: PJM issued a Maximum Generation Alert and Load Management Alert for Oct. 13-14 with load forecasts of 112,447 MW and 113,312 MW, about 61,000 MW of generation on outage, and a DOE 202(c) order covering Oct. 13-16 (source). We found no confirmation that these alerts are still active today.
- Real-Time LMP: No hub-level price data (Western Hub, NI Hub, AEP-Dayton) surfaced in approved sources for the last 24 hours. Check PJM Data Miner for live prices.
- Demand Response: PJM called Pre-Emergency Load Management for Oct. 13 and 14 to cover the afternoon and evening net-load peaks. Separately, PJM plans to refile its Reliability Backstop Procurement with FERC on Oct. 29 after FERC asked for changes in three core areas (source).
NYISO — Large load rules draw lukewarm support
- ICAP Tag Tracking: No UCAP tag changes or auction results surfaced today. Routine activity is posted on the ICAP event calendar.
- CBEP Program Alerts: No CBEP alerts or activations found.
- Day-Ahead Pricing: No notable zone spreads reported. Policy item: NYISO’s large load interconnection framework, built to answer FERC’s show cause order, passed the Business Issues Committee but failed at the Operating Committee on Oct. 22 (source).
ERCOT — Outside the 4CP window, no grid alerts found
- 4CP Season Tracking: The 4CP window (June to September) is over. The 2026 all-time peak was 91 GW on July 22 (source).
- ORDC Pricing: No ORDC adder events or reserve shortfalls surfaced in approved sources.
- Grid Condition Alerts: No Weather Watch, Watch, Warning, Emergency, or Conservation Alerts found. Policy item: ERCOT is auditing about 300 data center proposals, with completion targeted for December.
ISO-NE — Thin fall margins and transmission outages to watch
- FCM Tag Events: CCP 19 (2028-29) qualification notices went out Oct. 16, and qualified capacities are finalized Nov. 2 (ISO-NE report).
- Capacity Market Integration: Cross Sound Cable is out Oct. 19-31 (0 MW both directions), Phase 2 is out through Nov. 2, and NECEC is out Nov. 5-17.
- Load Forecasting: The tightest fall week is Nov. 7, with a margin of -309 MW (50/50) and -1,147 MW (90/10). Winter’s tightest week is Jan. 9, 2027 at -810 MW (50/50). September real-time Hub LMP averaged $39.51/MWh.
MISO — DOE coal orders and capacity accreditation changes in focus
- Zonal Pricing: No notable zone spreads or constraint events surfaced. October settlement rates are posted on the MISO site.
- Planning Resource Auction: MISO’s 2026 auction release said capacity was sufficient for the coming year. No new Zone 4 concerns found. MISO also plans external resource capacity accreditation, including HVDC-enabled generation (source).
- Real-Time Settlements: Nothing unusual found. Policy item: Advisory Committee members largely oppose DOE 202(c) orders keeping the Schahfer, Campbell, and Culley coal plants online (source).
CAISO — Quiet operations, EDAM maturing
- Flex Alerts: No Flex Alerts or demand response call-outs found.
- Renewable Curtailment: No curtailment figures surfaced for today. Fall is typically a structural curtailment period for solar.
- NQC Integration: No NQC or RA deficiency notices found. PacifiCorp says the Extended Day-Ahead Market is working about six months in, with gas exports at new highs (source).
Cross-Market Watch
- Multi-ISO Risks: Large load integration is the common thread across PJM, NYISO, ERCOT, and MISO. FERC ordered NERC to file mandatory reliability standards for data centers and other computational loads by Dec. 31, 2026 (source).
- Regulatory Calendar: PJM’s backstop procurement refiling is due Oct. 29, and ISO-NE finalizes CCP 19 capacities Nov. 2.
HOW INTELLASTAR ENERGY ANALYST CAN HELP
Today’s conditions create specific opportunities — and risks — for your organization.
PJM just showed how fast load management can be called, even in October.
Intellastar Energy Analyst tracks PJM alerts and load management events so your team sees them before they hit your operations. It also helps you review your demand response enrollment ahead of next summer.
Negative fall and winter margins and long cable outages raise the odds of tight days in New England.
Intellastar Energy Analyst maps ISO-NE capacity positions and outage schedules to your load. It flags the weeks where your exposure is highest so you can plan ahead.
DOE emergency orders and new accreditation rules can change MISO capacity costs.
Intellastar Energy Analyst follows MISO rule changes and capacity signals in plain language. It shows how they could affect your next planning year.
